We've all heard it: eating salty foods makes you thirstier. But what sounds like good nutritional advice turns out to be an old-wives' tale. In a study carried out during a simulated mission to Mars, an international group of scientists has found exactly the opposite to be true. “Cosmonauts” who ate more salt retained more water, weren't as thirsty, and needed more energy.

FAU has demonstrated its strength in research once again: the University is conducting a new research project together with Siemens Healthcare GmbH, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen and other European partners in which researchers will develop an innovative hybrid device that combines different medical imaging technologies and will help stroke patients in particular to receive quicker diagnosis and treatment.

Dendritic cells represent an important component of the immune system: they recognize and engulf invaders which subsequently triggers a pathogen-specific immune response. Scientists of the Department of Dermatology and the LIMES Institute of the University of Bonn gained substantial knowledge of human dendritic cells which might contribute to the development of immune therapies in the future.
